While at school, Chairman, Youth of the National Salvation Party; 1985, Chairman, Welfare Party, Istanbul; 1994, elected Mayor of Metropolitan Istanbul; had to leave office and serve four months of imprisonment following the reading of a poem during a Party rally in 1999. Currently, Chairman, Justice and Development Party (AK Party). |
