Mission Statement/Goal:
The aim of the AIDS Law Project is to empower people living with HIV/AIDS to use the law to address discrimination and find redress for the violation of their human rights.

Description of services provided:

The Aids Law Project is active in South Africa, in the following areas:
Treatment - research on all issues relevant to access to treatment for people with HIV; appropriate legal interventions including impact litigation.
Workplace - provide free legal advice on complaint of workplace discrimination and litigate appropriate cases; provide expertise
Other - provide free legal advice and representation on all aspects of HIV discrimination


Organizational History

Year started: 1993
Structure: One paralegal division, one legal unit and a central administration consisting of a project manager, an administrator, a legal secretary and a volunteer.

Working languages: English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana

Staff at the AIDS Law Project have published extensively on issues related to HIV discrimination and access to treatment and care.
