CPA Positive Marketing Company Limited (PMCL) is a for-profit company, established and managed by people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Bangkok, Thailand.
· PMCL markets and retails products, primarily textile-based, made by PLWHA to generate profits that are used to fund care and support services for PLWHA.
· PMCL is a private company with three main shareholders: 1) the Center for People and Families Affected by AIDS (CPA), a community of more than 500 PLWHA in Bangkok, Thailand (74%); 2) the Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS (19%); and 3) private individuals (7%). PMCL was established under the UNESCAP “Partners for Health” initiative, in partnership with the Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS, and the Ministry of Public Health, Government of Thailand. Selected private sector partner companies provide in-kind and financial resources to support PMCL’s mission.
· In the first half of 2004, the company’s first year of operation, PMCL directly employed four PLWHA. In addition, the company indirectly employed more than 60 PLWHA and their supporting communities that undertook production of the orders facilitated by PMCL. By the end of 2004, PMCL projects generating 5.6 million baht in revenues. As part of its operations, in 2004 the company projects it will distribute an estimated 1.8 million baht in remuneration to PLWHA communities in exchange for their services.
