Description of Services:

Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) is a global organization that helps member companies achieve commercial success in ways that respect for ethical values, people, communities and the environment. Through socially responsible business policies and practices, companies can achieve viable, sustainable growth that benefits stakeholders as well as stockholders. By providing tools, training and custom advisory services, BSR enables its members to leverage corporate social responsibility as a competitive advantage.

As the leading global resource for corporate social responsibility (CSR), BSR equips its member companies with the expertise to design, implement and evaluate successful, socially responsible business practices. Membership provides an extensive set of practical resources—including training programs, technical assistance, research and business advisory services—accessible through face-to-face sessions and custom publications.

Today, BSR member companies have nearly $2 trillion in combined annual revenues and employ more than six million workers around the world. Membership is open to all companies regardless of size or sector. Focused on business needs, BSR does not advocate one standard or solution over another. Likewise, BSR does not take positions on public policy issues. Recognizing that there is no single "right" path or pace to becoming a good corporate citizen, BSR works with both "leaders" and "learners" to address specific corporate situations and needs. These company and industry-specific best practices allow BSR members to stop addressing CSR in an ad hoc manner. Seizing initiative and a competitive advantage, BSR members can develop innovative, integrated CSR strategies and steps that yield concrete change and the best results.

Experience with the Private Sector:

BSR is part of a growing global network of national organizations that promote awareness of CSR and provide business leaders with opportunities to collaborate and network with innovative managers across all industries, geographies and functions. BSR also works collaboratively with numerous other CSR, corporate citizenship and sustainability organizations throughout the world, such as Business in the Community in the U.K., the Council for Better Corporate Citizenship in Japan, CSR-Europe, Accion Empresarial in Chile, Instituto Ethos in Brazil, and MAALA in Israel. BSR is a founding member of EMPRESA, a network of CSR organizations in the Americas.

In 2001, BSR incorporated Net Impact into its programs. Net Impact is a network of MBAs and professionals committed to using the power of business to create a better world. Originally founded as Students for Responsible Business in 1993, Net Impact has developed into a mission-driven network of 6,000 new leaders for better business. Through the central organization and over 75 student and professional chapters worldwide, Net Impact offers a portfolio of programs to help members broaden their business education, refine their leadership skills, and pursue their professional goals, while building their network.
